Discrimination, homophobia and sexism are the biggest issues in football. Leading up to EURO2020, UEFA launched the ‘Sign for an Equal Game’ campaign. Featuring star players like Paul Pogba, Matthijs de Ligt, Pernille Harder, João Félix, Moise Kean, and Jadon Sancho, UEFA called on football fans to unite and stand together against racism and discrimination.
With each player, we revisited their roots and explored the theme of equality in a personally meaningful way. The content gained massive visibility as not only the players shared it on their own channels, but also UEFA Champions League, EURO202, and numerous UEFA legends supported the message. Additionally, the ‘Sign for an Equal Game’ message was broadcast on television at the start of every match during the third round. Our content distribution plan had never been this extensive.
Football fans were also invited to “sign” for an Equal Game by adding a digital signature on UEFA.com or using an AR filter on TikTok. Ultimately, the ambitious goal of 1 million signatures was far surpassed.
